Ethiopian Languages

Ethiopia is a linguistically diverse country with over 80 distinct languages spoken within its borders. While Amharic serves as the official language, there is a wide range of regional languages and dialects. These languages are often categorized into several language families, including Semitic, Cushitic, Omotic, and Nilo-Saharan.

Amharic, written in the unique Ge’ez script, is the most widely spoken language in Ethiopia and is used in government, education, and media. However, the linguistic diversity is a reflection of the country’s rich cultural tapestry, with each language representing a unique heritage and identity.
